Record beef shipments in January raise livestock prices

The record in shipments of Brazilian beef set in January has raised livestock prices in the domestic market. Last month, the Center for Advanced Studies on Applied Economics (Cepea) of the University of São Paulo index reached an unprecedented average of R$ 338.46 per arroba.

Compared to the previous month, the price of the arroba increased by 5.5%, according to Cepea. The increase compared to January last year was 2.36%.

According to the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex), the country shipped more than 140,000 tonnes of beef last month, the highest volume ever recorded in a single January. The volume grew 31% compared to January 2021.
