Record-breaking APL Dublin vessel docks in Suape, Brazil

The Port of Suape in Brazil’s Northeastern state Pernambuco, recently welcomed a world-class container ship, setting a new record for the longest vessel ever registered in the region. The APL DUBLIN, a Singapore-flagged ship owned by the shipping company CMA CGM, docked at the port, measuring an impressive 347.29 meters in length and 45.28 meters in width, with a maximum draft of 15.5 meters. The vessel has the capacity to transport 10,700 twenty-foot equivalent units of containers (TEUs).

The APL DUBLIN, which belongs to the largest class of container ships operating in Brazil, remained docked at Berth 1 until the morning of Monday (13th) before continuing its voyage to the Port of Santos in São Paulo.

During its visit to Pernambuco, the vessel saw over 1,500 containers moved on and off its decks. “The arrival of a ship of this size highlights Suape’s exceptional infrastructure. In addition to its strategic location, the port has suitable berths, a prepared team, and deep waters, making it perfect for receiving this type of vessel. Years of planning and simulations have made it possible to receive large ships. Today we have set another record, gaining national and international recognition,” said Nilson Monteiro, Director of Port Management at the state-owned company.

Suape Port has the capacity and infrastructure to receive New Panamax class vessels up to 366 meters long. It can transport over 14,000 TEUs, as per Directive 037/2021 issued by Suape with authorization from the Brazilian Navy. In July 2022, Suape received the MSC NEW HAVEN, measuring 333.99 meters in length and able to transport up to 8,084 TEUs, the largest vessel in the port’s history until the recent arrival of the APL DUBLIN.
