During the launch ceremony of the New PAC (Growth Acceleration Program), held this Monday (6) at the Arthur Azevedo Theater in the Historic Center of São Luís, the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, brought significant news for the development of Maranhão: the renewal of the concession of the Port of Itaqui for Maranhão.
The minister emphasized the strategic importance of the Port of Itaqui, highlighting the consistent records in grain handling, which has played a fundamental role in generating more than 16,000 direct and indirect jobs. He took the opportunity to announce the renewal of the authorization license for the Port of Itaqui, which was set to expire in 2026. Silvio Costa shared the words of President Lula, who expressed his admiration for the grandeur of the Maranhão Port and requested the early renewal of the license, as well as authorization for the concession of the Port of Itaqui for another 25 years. “This measure is to provide predictability and stimulate a significant increase in investments in the state of Maranhão, recognizing the strategic importance of the Port of Itaqui,” said the minister.
It is expected that the new contract will be formalized in December. The President of the Port of Itaqui, Gilberto Lins, emphasized that the announcement represents an invaluable gift to the people of Maranhão, recognizing the Port as an authentic driver of progress and development for the state. He stated, “The Port of Itaqui is much more than just a port; it is the beating heart of Maranhão’s development. This concession renewal consolidates our commitment to the sustainable growth of the region and the creation of opportunities for all the people of Maranhão.”

The Governor of Maranhão, Carlos Brandão, expressed his gratitude to the Federal Government for recognizing its strategic vision. He also highlighted the excellence in port management, which has been awarded for its operational efficiency. In addition, he emphasized the innovation of the Port’s decarbonization plan, which will make the Port of Itaqui the pioneer in Brazil to adopt such an initiative. Brandão pointed out that this announcement provides a solid legal basis for investors, stating, “This means that entrepreneurs who want to invest now can do so with confidence. We do not doubt these investors will be eager to seize this opportunity.”
