Rice exports fell by 41.5% in August, says Abiarroz

Brazilian rice exports (husk base) fell by 41.5% in August compared to the same month in 2023, totaling 164,500 tonnes, according to the Brazilian Association of Rice Industry (Abiarroz). In terms of revenue, sales dropped by 32% to USD 66.25 million.

The largest buyers were Venezuela, Senegal, Costa Rica, Gambia, and Peru. Of the total sold, 62.93% was processed rice.

From January to August, exports totaled 888,900 tonnes and USD 352.7 million, showing declines of 30.3% and 20.6% year-on-year, respectively.

Rice imports for the month were 136,570 tonnes, down 17% compared to August 2023. The expenditure on these imports totaled USD 64.77 million, an increase of 3.9%.

Year-to-date, imports grew by 12.6%, amounting to 1.15 million tonnes. Expenditures increased by 47%, reaching USD 513.22 million.
