Rice exports (husk base) totaled 153.4 thousand tons in January, compared to 141.9 thousand tons in the same month of 2022, informs the Brazilian Association of the Rice Industry (Abiarroz), based on figures from the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC). Shipments represented revenues of US$ 48.3 million, against US$ 44.6 million in the same period last year.
According to Abiarroz, external sales in January are within the expectations of the sector. The entity expects that such performance to be repeated in the coming months, but points out that the result will depend a lot on the global economic scenario, still impacted by the conflict in Eastern Europe, the consequences of the covid-19 pandemic and the fall in the harvest of large rice producers. , such as some countries in Asia and the United States.
Abiarroz understands that the moment requires even more efforts in promoting Brazilian processed rice throughout 2023, aiming to conquer new markets and expand participation in those to which it already exports. In the entity’s assessment, this could help protect the sector against possible turmoil in the international context, ensuring results at least similar to those of 2022.
