Rice exports remain strong but internal liquidity remains low

Brazilian exports of paddy rice remained strong in October. According to SECEX, 140,600 tons, were shipped, an increase of 8% over September, but down 8.4% over October 2020. In the Brazilian market, on the other hand, liquidity is low.
According to researchers at CEPEA (the center for advanced studies in applied economics), most producers are far from the spot market, while buyers seek to negotiate only small lots.
Pressure continues on prices. The ESALQ/SENAR-RS Indicator, 58% whole grains, with payment in cash, retreated 3.72% in the partial YTD figure for November, ending at R$ 65.76 per bag on Tuesday, November 9.
