Rio de Janeiro scores the best cargo throughput in May 2022

Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro (CDRJ), the state-owned company that manages the ports of Rio de Janeiro, Itaguaí, Niterói, and Angra dos Reis, recorded a cargo throughput of 5.64 million tonnes in May, making it the best performance recorded in 2022 so far.
The volume positively impacted the company’s global performance handled at the Port of Rio de Janeiro in May, which represented an increase of 11.5% compared to the same month last year.
In the year to date, from January to May, cargo handling at the Port of Rio de Janeiro grew by 14.3% compared to the same period in 2021. In addition, the Port Authority reported that the Port of Rio de Janeiro container throughput rose every month this year, up 26.5% compared to 2021.
In May alone, the increase was 40.3%. The report also indicates that, from January to May, the Port of Rio de Janeiro handled 215,337 TEUs, a volume 30% greater than that recorded in the same period in 2021.
