The ports in Rio Grande do Sul wrapped up 2023 with an overall growth of 13.88% compared to 2022. The data also shows 14.40% growth at Rio Grande Port, 5.27% at Pelotas, and 2.65% at Porto Alegre, for 44,835,679 tons handled.
Throughout the 365 days of the last year, the waterways in Rio Grande do Sul witnessed the passage of 3,691 vessels, with 2,971 heading to the Porto do Rio Grande, 571 to the Porto de Pelotas, and another 149 bound for the Porto de Porto Alegre. Solid bulk goods constituted the majority of the handled products, totaling 29,312,912 tons.
The performance achieved by the public ports in Rio Grande do Sul in 2023 stands as the second-best result in the last five years. Expectations are high for even greater numbers in the coming years, driven by infrastructure investments and the brand’s internationalization strategy implemented since the consolidation of the legal nature change.
The first full year of operation as a public company enabled the execution of structural projects, enhancing mobility, efficiency, and modernization for the state’s main maritime port. Some of these projects have already been completed, and others, such as the new Gate 2, are expected to be finished and delivered to the port community soon.
