Rio de Janeiro to create maritime authority
Jul, 13, 2021 Posted by Ruth HollardWeek 202129
To debate socioeconomic development actions on the coast of Rio de Janeiro, members of the Rio de Janeiro state naval technological cluster met with Governor Cláudio Castro (PL) at Guanabara Palace this week. The group suggested the creation of a “maritime authority”, within the government, with the mission of articulating actions to promote the so-called “sea economy”. The governor gave the cluster 15 days to develop the idea together with the state secretariat for economic development and present the proposals for action by the new body.
The cluster, linked to FIRJAN, has existed since 2019 and is formed by the federal state companies Emgepron, Nuclep, and Amazul, in addition to Condor Non-Lethal Technologies, the only private company in the group. At the meeting, the action plan prepared by the cluster to promote the so-called input-output matrix of the sector was presented, ranging from the building of ships and oil platforms to maritime tourism, including topics such as the purchase of national content and artisanal fishing.
