The drilling and blasting stage of the rock demolition work on the Palangana Stone was completed by Portos do Paraná this week. The work continues with the removal, crushing, and disposal of the rocks in the seven municipalities along the coast of the state. The forecast is that the activities will be 100% completed by January 2022.
This was the most delicate step for the bodies and entities that monitor the execution.
Portos do Paraná is removing the six highest points of the rock mass, totaling a volume of 22,300 m³, which corresponds to 12% of the total 200,000 cubic meters that make up Palangana. The value of the works reaches R$ 26 million and is paid for with the public company’s own resources.
Once the work is completed, the company will carry out a bathymetry, an activity that measures the depth of the area and is used to ensure the safety and efficiency of vessel traffic. The results of this measurement will be sent to the Navy for validation and determination of a new operational draft.
In addition to improving navigation safety, there is a reduction in the waiting time for berthing and unberthing maneuvers and, consequently, an increase in operating windows – which is the period in which ships are able to maneuver.
