Rondônia Achieves Historic Record in Beef Exports

In 2024, Rondônia reached an unprecedented milestone in beef exports, totaling R$6.96 billion in sales to international markets. This figure represents a 20% increase compared to 2023 when the state earned R$5.76 billion. This growth is directly linked to an increase in the number of cattle slaughtered, which reached 3.1 million head—nearly a thousand more than the previous year.

Since Rondônia was recognized as a foot-and-mouth disease-free zone without vaccination by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) in 2021, the state’s livestock sector has reached new heights. A collaborative effort between the state government, rural producers, and the Rondônia Agrosilvopastoral Health Defense Agency (Idaron) has been key to boosting production and solidifying the state as one of Brazil’s leading livestock hubs.

Investments and Public Policies

Acting Governor Sérgio Gonçalves highlighted the positive impact of public policies focused on the sector. “Since 2019, we have invested more than R$ 480 million in Idaron and actions for sanitary defense and livestock development. Today, we are reaping the rewards of this work with the strengthening of the productive sector and a significant increase in exports,” he stated.

Idaron President Julio Cesar Rocha Peres emphasized the importance of international sanitary recognition. “This achievement has opened doors to new markets and increased exports from R$4.67 billion in 2021 to R$6.96 billion in 2024. This progress was only possible due to strict sanitary defense measures and continuous support for the productive sector,” he explained.

Shift in Slaughter Trends

Another notable trend is the increase in female cattle slaughter, which rose from 649,000 in 2021 to 1.52 million in 2024, nearly matching the number of males slaughtered, which stood at 1.56 million. According to Fabiano Alexandre dos Santos, manager of animal sanitary defense at Idaron, the appreciation of beef prices was one of the factors driving this market shift.

With strategic investments, exceptional sanitary standards, and access to new markets, Rondônia has established itself as a national and international leader in livestock production. The sector’s growth strengthens the local economy, creates opportunities, and positions the state as a prominent player in Brazil’s agribusiness industry.
