In February, Rumo completed the construction of approximately three kilometers of tracks for the Senador Vicente Emílio State Railway in Rondonópolis, Mato Grosso. After a year of earthworks and the building of a viaduct, these tracks now constitute the initial kilometers of the main line and an auxiliary line for unloading inputs.
This project will assist with the reception of materials for a new railway connecting southern Mato Grosso to Cuiabá and the Mid-North region. Spanning 743 kilometers, this railway will integrate the state into the federal rail network, as well as promote a deeper connection with the industrial market and the consumer base of São Paulo, not to mention the leading port complex in the southern hemisphere, the Port of Santos.
To lay down these three kilometers of tracks, 3,334 concrete crossties, 1,745 wooden crossties, two Switch Machines (AMVs), and 20 rail bars (each 312 meters long) were employed. “These initial tracks symbolize a new chapter in the national infrastructure history. Despite being a state grant, the Senador Vicente Emílio Vuolo Railway is set to leave a mark on the national economy by becoming one of the most efficient logistics solutions in the state, which is known for its agribusiness operations. Mato Grosso has a prosperous industry and sectors of commerce and services that can greatly benefit from rail transport,” Harley Silva, Executive Manager of Railway Construction Implementation at Rumo, analyzes.
In addition to the positive economic impacts, job creation is another significant legacy of the railway. Studies by the Industry Observatory of FIEMT (Federation of Industries of Mato Grosso), for example, indicate a “wave” of development during the track implementation phase between the South, capital, and Mid-North of the state. The construction alone is set to generate 186 thousand jobs in Mato Grosso.
“Transformation is underway. By adding up the professionals involved in the construction of the first railway viaduct in Rondonópolis and the number of workers mobilized in the current stages, we have already mobilized over 1,200 professionals in a single year,” remarks Tiago Proba, Manager of Culture, Attraction, Diversity, and Employer Branding at Rumo.
Recently, it was announced that professional training courses will be offered by the Federation of Industries of Mato Grosso (FIEMT), through the National Service for Industrial Learning (SENAI MT) and the Euvaldo Lodi Institute (IEL MT). The initiative aims to select, recruit, and train professionals who can perform duties in the Senador Emílio Vuolo State Railway’s construction. The SENAI courses are focused on the construction industry, and IEL MT will select and recruit workers.
Recruitment will be conducted after the registration of resumes and screening of professionals for available positions. The contracts with IEL SENAI are with Rumo, but the hiring will be done by the construction companies responsible for the project.
