Rumo (RAIL3) has formed a strategic partnership to develop a new port terminal in Santos dedicated to grain and fertilizer operations.
The company has entered into a binding agreement with CHS Agronegócio, a subsidiary of CHS Inc., to create a joint venture with shared control. This joint venture will be responsible for implementing a new terminal in the area of EMBRAPORT—Empresa Brasileira de Terminais Portuários, a part of the DP World Group.
The terminal is designed to have a throughput of up to 12.5 million tonnes annually, with a capacity for 9 million tonnes of grain and 3.5 million tonnes of fertilizer.
Fertilizers play an important role in the Brazilian economy by making crops more productive. The chart below uses DataLiner data to assess the import volume of fertilizers registered at the Port of Santos between January 2022 and June 2024.
