On July 27, Rumo, a logistics company belonging to the Cosan group, inaugurated the stretch considered to be the most important part of its operation on the North-South Railway. In March of this year, the company had already inaugurated the first stage of the road, between Estrela D’Oeste (SP) and São Simão (GO). Now, the company is putting into operation the new terminal in Rio Verde (GO), which will allow a considerable increase in the volume of cargo transported.
“The new terminal is 200 km above São Simão. So the railroad will get closer to producers in the southwest of Goiás and will be able to capture cargo from eastern Mato Grosso”, says Pedro Palma, commercial vice-president of Rumo. The structure, which required R$ 400 million in investment, will have a capacity for 11 million tons of grain per year.
The rest of the railroad has yet to be completed. At the beginning of the year, the forecast was that it would be completed in 2021, but today the perspective is to finish in the first half of 2022. One last section of approximately 290 km remains between Rio Verde and Ouro Verde de Goiás (near Anápolis). The next stretch that goes to Tocantins was already built and in operation even before the concession of the railway to Rumo.
