Russia considers quota on seed imports by foreign companies
Aug, 12, 2022 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202232
The agriculture ministry of Russia has proposed that the government limit seed imports by setting up a quota to stimulate domestic production, quoted the Interfax news agency.
Some companies, such as Bayer and Syngenta, continued to supply Russian farmers with seeds and chemicals to protect crops despite the invasion of Ukraine, alleging global food security concerns.
Russia is one of the largest wheat producers and exporters in the world. Seeds and agrochemicals company Corteva said it was leaving Russia in May, costing the company $45 million.
