Russia animal health inspection service announced on Tuesday (06/02) the expansion of the list of Brazilian meatpacking plants eligible to export beef and poultry to the country.
The JBS unit in Confresa, Mato Grosso, has been approved to initiate beef exports to Russia. Additionally, the Kremlin has widened the range of products BRF’s plant in Chapecó can send. While the Santa Catarina-based facility received authorization to sell animal meals to Russia in May 2022, it can now export poultry meat and fats.
The Russians have also lifted temporary restrictions imposed on three other plants nearly seven years ago. The list includes two plants owned by Seara Alimentos, one in Forquilhinha (Santa Catarina) and the other in Itapetininga (São Paulo), as well as the JBS unit in Lins (São Paulo).
With the lifting of restrictions, the Seara plant in Santa Catarina is authorized to export poultry meat, by-products, poultry fats, and animal-origin meals. Meanwhile, the São Paulo-based unit is authorized to sell only poultry meat. The JBS facility has been reinstated for beef exports. Sales from these establishments have been suspended since 2017.
The new approvals and the removal of restrictions stem from an on-site audit conducted by Russian inspectors in Brazil between November and December last year, the first since 2015. During the audit, the Russian delegation visited six Brazilian states and the Federal District.
With the expansion, the list of eligible Brazilian meatpacking plants now totals 358. Of these, only 178 are fully authorized to export, while 180 are subject to various restrictions and suspensions.
“The Russian mission once again strengthened the relationship of trust between the sanitary authorities of Brazil and Russia and reaffirmed the importance of Brazil’s role in supplying animal products, being one of the main meat suppliers to the Russian market,” said the Russian agricultural attaché in Brazil, Andrey Yurkov, in a social media post.
