Russia has suspended ammonium nitrate exports, according to information released by the state news agency Tass on this Wednesday, February 2nd.
Ammonium nitrate is a chemical used as a fertilizer. Russia is currently the world’s largest producer of ammonium nitrate.
According to Tass, exports will be interrupted for two months from this Wednesday onwards.
The Russian government decided to guarantee the supply of the product to the domestic market as farmers will bring this year’s harvest forward because of weather conditions.
“This is a temporary measure; the remaining volume can be exported beginning on April 2nd. By that time, Russian companies will have received enough ammonium nitrate to meet their demand,” said vice-prime-minister- Andrey Belousov.
