Russia lifts ban on meat imports from two Minerva slaughterhouses

Russia removed the restrictions it had maintained since 2017 on beef exports from a Brazilian slaughterhouse and enabled another to begin exporting to the country. Both plants are owned by Minerva. Russian authorities made the official decision on the two units earlier this week and personally informed the Minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina, on the 17th.
In a video published on social networks, the minister said that in addition to the reopening of the two units, the Russian government promised a visit to Brazil in the first quarter of 2022 to inspect more meatpacking plants and analyze the lifting of the suspension of other companies.
The authorized slaughterhouses are SIF 791, in Rolim de Moura (RO), and 2911, located in Mirassol d’Oeste (SP). Products made at these plants, such as meat, offal, and bovine fats may begin entering Russia on the 16th of the month.
The slaughterhouse in São Paulo had been suspended since May 2017, when the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor) imposed restrictions on Brazilian beef and pork due to “numerous detections of the beta-adrenostimulant ractopamine” in Brazilian meat products. Another 30 units were also subject to restrictions. The Rondônia slaughterhouse was not yet authorized to sell to Russia.
