The Acron group, from Russia, agreed to buy the Petrobras fertilizer plant located in Três Lagoas (MS), informed the Minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina, on the 4th, during an event at the municipality’s City Council. The UFN-3 unit produces nitrogen fertilizers.
According to the minister, the Petrobras Board of Directors has already approved the sale, but there is no word on when the Russians will begin operating the infrastructure. The agreement’s values were not disclosed.
On the 12th, a delegation from the Brazilian government will travel to Russia to discuss the agreement, among other topics.
“We have meetings planned with several fertilizer manufacturers in Russia, and they [Acron] are on the list. So they will be able to provide us with very fresh information on how things will go, ” she stated.
According to the minister, the sale of UFN-3 can help Brazilian agriculture become less reliant on fertilizer imports. Out of the three NPK macronutrients, nitrogen is the third most consumed in Brazil. Conversely, nitrogen is ranks first among imports in its category. The input accounts for approximately 35% of Brazilian fertilizer imports.
