The San Antonio International Terminal (STI) reached a significant milestone by transporting the largest quantity of cherry-loaded containers this season. This achievement was realized with the arrival of the “MN Cosco Brazil” ship, making its inaugural stop at the Chilean terminal and loading 1,136 reefers filled with the fruit.
Rodrigo Galleguillos, the general manager of STI, emphasized, “We prepared throughout the year in collaboration with port authorities, logistics, and producers to ensure efficient handling of cargo for all importers and exporters in the country. Our entire infrastructure and team were dedicated to this goal, considering the importance of keeping refrigerated containers with fruits in the port for the shortest time possible, ensuring the product maintains its quality and arrives in excellent condition at its final destination.”
Cosco, the company responsible for the ship, expressed satisfaction with the accomplishment. Yin Yong, the company’s general manager in Chile, stated, “We are happy to have been protagonists in this record cherry transfer at STI. We are committed to our customers, and the coordinated and efficient work we carried out together with the terminal allows us to meet the ideal delivery deadlines.”
The union of land transporters highlighted the limited waiting times during this season at the terminal, with each truck averaging 19 minutes at STI. Iván Mateluna, president of the Federation of Truck Owners of the V Region, emphasized, “As transporters, we always make all our resources available during the season, especially when we recognize the importance of meeting delivery deadlines. This year, in the case of cherries, we observed very efficient terminal operations even with the significant truck movement in the region. These reduced times in cargo reception benefit the quality of life for drivers. We congratulate the terminal for these service standards.”
Ricardo Rodríguez, a terminal worker and spokesperson for the Chilean Port Workers’ Union, ensured that “since the beginning of the season, we understood the importance of cherries for Chilean exporters, especially in the Eastern market, considering their arrival date. For this reason, all terminal workers have ensured that each fruit container reaches its destination in the conditions and on the date established.”
