Santa Catarina 2021 chicken meat exports reach US$ 1 billion

The poultry industry in Santa Catarina is resuming growth in the international market and has accumulated US$ 1 billion in sales with exports of chicken meat in 2021. Santa Catarina is the second-largest national exporter of the product and, throughout the year, there were more than 583,700 tons sold to hundreds of countries. The numbers were released by the Ministry of Economy and analyzed by EPAGRI/CEPA (the center for socioeconomics and agricultural planning).
Chicken meat is the main product in the Santa Catarina export basket. From January to July of this year, Santa Catarina increased its export sales by 9.4%, accounting for 24.3% of the national total. The export markets include Japan (6.3%), Saudi Arabia (41%), Chile (73.9%), and Mexico, whose imports were 69 times higher than in the same period the previous year, closing at US$ 21.7 million.
Increased sales in July
Last month, Santa Catarina exported 91,200 tons of chicken meat and sales exceeded US$ 172.6 million, an increase of 41% compared to July of the previous year and 4.2% compared to June 2021. The main markets were Japan, Netherlands, China, and Saudi Arabia.
