Week 202502

Santa Catarina closed 2024 with 1.97 million tons of meat exports, marking the highest volume in the state’s history for the second year in a row. The exported products include chicken, pork, turkey, duck, drake, and beef. The data was released by the Ministry of Finance and Epagri/Cepa (Santa Catarina’s Center for Socioeconomics and Agricultural Planning).

This performance represents a 6.6% increase in export volume compared to 2023, when the state had already achieved a historic record of 1.85 million tons. The state recorded $4.15 billion in revenue in 2024, a 3.2% increase over the $4.02 billion achieved the previous year.

Santa Catarina Leads Brazil’s Exports, Second Only to Paraná

Santa Catarina’s meat exports account for 20.4% of Brazil’s total, meaning one of every five tons shipped originates from the state. It solidifies its position as Brazil’s second-largest meat exporter, trailing only Paraná.

Here are the ports that registered the highest volumes of meat product exports in 2022. The data was derived from Datamar’s DataLiner.

The meat sector is the primary driver of Santa Catarina’s exports. Chicken tops external sales, generating $2.29 billion in revenue, followed by pork, which brought in $1.7 billion in 2024.

Chicken Faces Challenges but Grows Thanks to Japan

Despite challenges, such as embargoes related to Newcastle disease, Santa Catarina exported 1.17 million tons of chicken meat, a 5.7% increase in volume compared to 2023. However, revenues dropped 2.9% in October due to restrictions.

Japan, the leading destination for Santa Catarina’s chicken, stood out with a 25.2% increase in volume and an 8.4% rise in revenue.

Pork Sector Shows Significant Growth

Pork exports reached 719,400 tons in 2024, representing a 9.3% increase in volume and an 8% rise in revenue, making it the state’s second-most exported product.

Among the top buyers were the Philippines, with a 48.2% increase in volume and 39% in revenue; Japan, showing an impressive 131.7% growth in volume and 132.2% in revenue; and Mexico, with a 51% rise in volume and 45.6% in value.

With solid results and expanding markets, Santa Catarina continues to be a leader in the global meat export industry.
