Port company Santos Brasil closed the first quarter of 2019 with a total throughput of 254,929 containers in its three terminals – Tecon Santos, Imbituba, and Vila do Conde, up 0.7% compared to the same quarter last year.
Tecon Santos alone handled 218,533 containers between January and March, up 1.5% year-on-year. Tecon Santos was the only terminal in Santos Port to have a strong positive growth in the first quarter, increasing its market share to 39.7%.
Libra Terminais received its last vessel call on April 28. DatamarNews reported CMA CGM have transferred services from Libra Terminais to DP World Santos. Datamar’s ECSA Container Terminal Report 2019 shows Santos Brasil is close to full capacity, so DP World are likely to gain from Libra’s exit.
Santos Port Authority (Codesp) is planning to request Centronave, Brazil’s shipping lines association, and its partners to enter into a transitional contract with Libra Terminais at Santos. The organ wants Libra to receive container vessels again until a new tenant for the port area assumes responsibilities.
The following graph shows the first quarter container throughput trends for the main Santos terminals. This graph does not include cabotage, transshipment and empty container data.
