Santos Brasil closed the third quarter of 2021 with a 26.4% increase in the volume of containers handled over the same period in 2020, with 321,448 units handled in its three port terminals. The result was achieved despite the current challenges faced in global logistics and in the supply chain which, intensified by persistent demand in most global markets, provoked shocks in the supply of ships and containers used in the circulation of goods and merchandise, thus reducing the potential volume in 3Q21.
Despite having seen a milder peak season than initially expected, Tecon Santos had a 30.7% year-on-year growth in container handling, with 280,851 units, surpassing in 3Q21 that recorded at the Port of Santos (+13, 5%). The highlight at the Santos terminal was the volume of full import containers, with an increase of 69.1% (year on year).
At Tecon Vila do Conde (PA) a total of 29,278 containers were operated in 3Q21, an increase of 11.1% compared to the third quarter of last year, with expressive growth in cabotage (30.3% more compared to 3Q20) and steady performance also in long-haul navigation (up 3.4% against 3Q20).
Tecon Imbituba recorded a 13% drop (YoY) in the volume of containers handled, with 11,319 units, a reflection of lower cargo transport via cabotage.
TEV registered the movement of 42,169 vehicles (+9.0% YoY), with exports being 3.6% higher compared to 3Q20 and imports growing by 107.8% compared to 3Q20.
In 3Q21, Santos Brasil Logística stored 19,282 containers (+90.1% YoY), as a result of growing imports at the Port of Santos, mainly considering the capture of containers from other terminals for storage at CLIAs.
The financial results showed that net revenue totaled R$396.6 million (+80.0% compared to 3Q20), reflecting the growth in volume and the improvement in the mix in all business units, as well as the increase in the average ticket, mainly at Tecon Santos, as a result of the renegotiation of contracts with shipowners. Compared to 3Q19, a base without impacts from the Covid-19 pandemic, net income in 3Q21 grew 58.5%.
