The Santos City Hall will contract a company to pave Augusto Scaraboto Street in the Alemoa neighborhood. The project is part of the paving, drainage and remodeling plan for the exit of the only viaduct — Doctor Paulo Bonavides — providing access to the terminals located on the Right Bank of the Port.
The public notice for the tender was published this Thursday (23) in the Official Gazette of the Municipality. In addition to paving, the winning company will provide the necessary materials, equipment and labor. The public session for interested parties will take place on July 2nd, at 10 a.m.
When approached, the Municipal Administration confirmed that the work is part of a package of improvements, which includes the viaduct exit.
“The initiative aims to meet a longstanding request from workers and improve traffic flow in the port area, benefiting especially the approximately 800 trucks that travel daily through the Port of Santos and the municipality’s industrial area”, the statement said.
According to the City Hall, a total of R$ 17.9 million will be invested in the entirety of the works, with R$ 13.6 million from the state government’s coffers and an additional R$ 4.3 million from the municipality’s counterpart. The forecast is that the works will be completed one year after commencement.
What will be done
Paving, resurfacing and installation of curbs and gutters will be carried out at the Alemoa viaduct exit. The interventions also involve the installation of 34 LED streetlights, cleaning and leveling of areas for landscaping. Road signage is also planned at the end of the viaduct to eliminate the traffic light intersection.
“The works must be carried out with caution, as traffic flows to and from the port cannot be interrupted — approximately 30% of the national production for shipment passes through this location”, said Wagner Ramos, secretary of Infrastructure and Public Services of Santos.
According to the City Hall, the works will “be accompanied and executed by the Santos Port Authority (APS) in areas under its responsibility to ensure traffic flow. Future works planned by APS, a direct viaduct link between Via Anchieta and Augusto Barata Avenue, the main access to the Santos Port, will be lacking”.
Regarding possible deviations in the road system, the City Hall stated that “any traffic impacts will be announced before the start of the works”.
The authorization for the state contribution to the road remodeling around the viaduct in Alemoa was signed by governor Tarcísio de Freitas and mayor Rogério Santos, at the Municipal Palace on the 2nd of last month.
“The announcement of the state contribution to the works met the demands of truck drivers, brought to the state government by mayor Rogério Santos in September of last year”, concluded the City Hall.
The transfer was announced in the first week of December 2023, as reported in A Tribuna. The state’s promise was to sign the agreement still in 2023, what did not happen.
