Santos Port Authority Invests BRL 3.9 Million in Deepening Bulk Cargo Docks
Jan, 12, 2024 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202402
The Santos Port Authority (APS) has initiated a project to deepen bulk cargo berths and respective access areas of docks 12A to 21 on the right bank of the Port of Santos. This development will enable the port to accommodate larger vessels than those currently berthed, enhancing the port’s productivity and bolstering Brazil’s competitiveness in international trade.
The president of APS, Anderson Pomini, elaborated on the initiative, stating, “There are six berths that, after ten years since the deepening of the navigation channel, will have the same depth of 15 meters, allowing for the arrival of higher-capacity ships.”
Primarily catering to the export of bulk vegetal goods (being the world’s largest sugar shipping point), the area will now boast a depth of 15 meters, consistent with the navigation channel of the port. Currently, the operational draft of those berths ranges from 10.9 to 13.8 meters during low tide.
