The Santos Port Authority (APS), the entity responsible for managing the Port of Santos, has received the AAPA-CIP Port Industry Award of Excellence for the third consecutive year. This prestigious award is presented by the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) and the Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (S/CIP) under the Organization of American States (OAS). Much like the previous year, APS has earned recognition in the “Public-Private Partnerships” category for its commitment to fostering strategic public-private alliances with various stakeholders from different sectors, thereby promoting sustainable and efficient port development.
The award will be officially conferred at the 31st edition of the AAPA Latin America Congress, scheduled to take place in Colombia in December. This prize was inaugurated in 2021, and Santos remains the sole recipient to have been honored in all three editions. In its inaugural edition, APS was lauded for its exemplary response to the challenges posed by COVID-19, an effort that garnered widespread support from the local port community.
According to the event organizers, the selection of award recipients takes into account actions that have enhanced the efficiency and capacity of port facilities, fostered economic benefits, and created multiplier effects for local and national markets. Additionally, the criteria encompass competitiveness, cooperation, and integration with key stakeholders in the port industry to promote operational sustainability, among other factors.
The award was open to both public and private ports, terminals, and port operators hailing from the 35 Member States of the Organization of American States (OAS).
Apart from APS, this year’s award recipients include Barbados Port Inc. (in the Technology and Innovation category) and DP World Caucedo, a port located in the Dominican Republic (in the Port Infrastructure Development category).
