Transbrasa, a bonded terminal at the Port of Santos, has earned the 2024 Pro-Climate Gold Seal, awarded by the Brazilian Alliance for Port Decarbonization (ABDP). This prestigious recognition highlights ports and companies leading the way in sustainability by committing to reducing emissions and adopting responsible environmental practices.

The Alliance serves as a platform for ports and terminals to share best practices and develop solutions aimed at decarbonizing the industry.

ABDP also fosters innovation in clean technologies and promotes sustainable operational efficiency.

“Innovation is at the heart of Transbrasa, as we continually invest in improving logistics efficiency, employee well-being, and environmental best practices,” says CEO Bayard Umbuzeiro Neto. “The Gold Seal shows that we are making real progress in decarbonizing our terminal’s operations while staying aligned with the environmental goals of our clients.”

ABDP functions as an open forum for exchanging ideas and information, working to accelerate the decarbonization of Brazil’s port and maritime sectors.

The platform encourages collaboration between national and international stakeholders, fosters knowledge and technology exchange, and drives new strategic actions aimed at decarbonizing ports and fleets.

As global demand for sustainable practices rises, Brazil’s port sector faces pressure to adapt, as decarbonization becomes a key factor in maintaining international competitiveness.

As a founding member of ABDP, Transbrasa is instrumental in putting practical decarbonization initiatives into action, directly influencing daily port operations.

Founding members actively apply the technologies, practices, and policies developed within the Alliance and offer valuable feedback on their effectiveness. As major industry players, they lead by example and demonstrate the positive impact of ABDP’s initiatives on their operations.

Andrea Umbuzeiro, Transbrasa’s Human Resources Director, noted that the company’s ongoing decarbonization efforts were key to earning the Gold Seal in 2024—the second-highest honor from ABDP—placing Transbrasa among the top performers in Brazil’s port sector.

“Our environmental programs are always evolving, and our goal for 2025 is to achieve the Diamond Seal, the highest recognition from the Alliance,” says Umbuzeiro. “This would cement Transbrasa’s leadership and innovation, pillars that have long defined our company—even in decarbonization.”
