Santos truck drivers warn of strike unless they receive Covid-19 vaccine

Tired of waiting for an announcement from the federal government on the vaccination against Covid-19, the autonomous truck drivers from the Port of Santos promise to cross their arms for 24 hours this Thursday, June 10. The plan was announced by SINDICAM (the union of autonomous road transporters of goods from Santos) and another 15 entities representing the category. If their demands are not met, they will repeat the strike.
Up until now, independent port workers, terminal workers, port authorities, and consenting agencies have been vaccinated. However, given that everyone involved in port activities is being vaccinated, truck drivers are demanding their turn, as are several other categories of workers. Among them are shipping agents, onboard suppliers, and ship surveyors.
“Due to our dissatisfaction with the negligence that has been occurring on the part of the federal, state, and municipal government for this category of self-employed truck drivers, which to date has not been presented with a vaccination plan, we are calling on the entire category to wage a 24-hour warning strike”, said the SINDICAM board, in a letter sent to the port community.
