On Tuesday, the 8th of August, Cleverton Vieira, the president of the Port of São Francisco do Sul, and Vânia Franco, the secretary of National Articulation, held a meeting with Maryane Figueiredo, the National Secretary of Rail Transportation at the Ministry of Transport.
The focal point of the meeting was the outline of the Railway Area of São Francisco do Sul. The key question was whether the public notice document for the resumption of works should be issued this year. The Ministry’s response was positive, highlighting that the DNIT is closely monitoring the process. “Having this information is crucial, particularly as a signal for the city and the market,” commented Cleverton Vieira, the port president.
The second and primary topic discussed centered on the potential early renewal of the contract with Rumo, the company in charge of the Malha Sul railroad.
Initially set to expire in 2027, the previous administration had already officially received the company’s request for an early renewal, which is currently in progress. However, certain studies that Rumo has yet to submit to the Ministry are still required.
“The Port of São Francisco do Sul and the Government of Santa Catarina are keen on understanding more about this possible new contract, as it offers the opportunity to include vital elements related to the area’s infrastructure,” stated Vania Franco, the secretary of National Articulation.
Also in attendance at the meeting were Gustavo Gomes, the director of Rail Grants, and Leandro Vargas, the coordinator of this department, both representing the Ministry of Transport. Guilherme Medeiros, the Infrastructure Manager at the Port of São Francisco do Sul, was also present.
