São Paulo company set to import 180,000 tonnes of fertilizers through Aracruz Port

With a substantial investment of R$ 65 million, Adufértil, a company headquartered in Campinas (São Paulo) is set to start utilizing Portocel – the Port of Aracruz – for importing and handling fertilizers in Brazil. Among its clients are Suzano, a global leader in the production of eucalyptus-derived bioproducts, and other major players in the industry.
This operational development underscores Portocel’s ongoing diversification strategy. The terminal, jointly owned by Suzano and Cenibra, has gained recognition for its excellence in handling forest products and has progressively broadened its operations to include various types of cargo such as ornamental rocks, steel products, and large-scale equipment for the oil industry. In collaboration with Adufértil, the terminal is now poised to handle fertilizers, a key commodity for the country’s agribusiness operations.
The volume expected to be handled at the terminal ranges between 120,000 and 180,000 tons per annum, with potential for further expansion. This operation will entail a comprehensive logistics chain, creating indirect employment opportunities for professionals such as drivers, port workers, agents, and maritime support personnel.

Adufértil plans to install a mixer on an approximately 90,000 m² area designated for expanding operations in Portocel, close to the Suzano factory in Aracruz. The inclusion of around 300,000 m² of contiguous area to the port, expanding the available space by 60%, forms part of the terminal’s strategy to enhance storage options, strengthening its appeal for new cargo operations.
Alexandre Billot Mori, Executive Operations Manager of Portocel and President of the Amear business association, claimed “This new fertilizer operation reinforces our position as a multipurpose port and increases our market share in the segment. It also crowns the city of Aracruz as an important logistics hub in Espírito Santo and Brazil. Coupled with the benefits promoted by Sudene and other incentives, it adds extra allure for new business in the region.”
For Suzano, this represents a strategic move, considering the company plants 1.2 million trees per day across Brazil. Carlos Alberto Nassur, Executive Operations Manager of Forestry Operations at Suzano, highlights that the logistics chain will gain competitiveness due to the integration and proximity between the port and the factory. “A significant portion of the fertilizer we use in our forestry plantations will now arrive through Portocel, strengthening our port and, above all, the economy of Aracruz and Espírito Santo, through the collection of taxes, employment, and income.”
The Adufértil operation is expected to commence in 2026, following the completion of the mixer construction, aiming to open new logistical frontiers for fertilizer movements to serve Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, and Bahia.
