Saudi Arabia was one of the countries that stood out as leading destinations for Brazilian poultry from January to May this year. A Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) survey pointed out that the Saudis bought 148,100 tonnes of the product, up 19.4% over the same period in 2022.
In the first five months of this year, Brazil exported 2.18 million tonnes of poultry, a volume 9.7% higher than from January to May last year. In terms of revenue, shipments tallied USD 4.28 billion, a 13.4% increase in the same comparison.
China was the leading destination, with 328,000 tonnes and a 32.6% purchase expansion. Japan, South Africa, the European Union, and Saudi Arabia also stood out.
In May, exports totaled 433,300 tonnes, 0.9% more than the volume exported in the same period of 2022. Revenue reached USD 867.4 million, down 4.1% from May last year.
“The conservation of exports at levels above the monthly record average of 430,000 tonnes demonstrates the international perception of the responsibility with which the government and the private sector in Brazil have dealt the issue of Avian Influenza in wild birds and also highlights the confidence the international market has in Brazil’s sanitary status, as well as in our ability to guarantee the supply to importing countries,” said the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin, in a press release.
