Access to the ports of Itajaí and Navegantes was reopened this Wednesday afternoon (June 30) after 24 hours of closure due to intense gusts of wind and rough seas caused by the subtropical storm ‘Raoni.’
At least four ships had to wait, two to leave the ports and two to enter. According to pilotage, activities were resumed at 3:30 pm, and around 6:00 pm on Wednesday, cargo maneuvers were normalized.
The closure on Tuesday came after the Brazilian Navy issued an alert concerning the formation of a cyclone over Uruguay that had evolved into a subtropical storm named “Raoni,” which means “great warrior,” in Tupi-Guarani.
The Itajaí-Açu River Port Complex is one of the largest container handling complexes in the country. The ports of Itajaí and Navegantes are options for import and export terminals. They also represent alternatives that leverage the state’s economy.
