The Santos Port Authority (SPA) – as Codesp is now known – has opened a public consultation regarding the changes proposed under the Port of Santos Vessel Mooring Rules. The new rules have been posted on website www.portodesantos.com.br, and will be open to examination for the first two weeks of February. After this, they will become part of the Port Development Rules (REP).
The standards have been revised and the new provisions are being submitted to the port community via the public consultation. As a result there will be transparency on changes made and alignment among users of the Port of Santos. The new standard will replace Resolution No. 176 of October 16, 1979, published by the former Empresa de Portos do Brasil S.A. (Portobras).
During a recent visit to the port of Santos by the Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, SPA president Casemiro Tércio Carvalho, highlighted the importance of implementing the new standard. Mooring standards involves all the all the criteria for operation of the pier, including priorities and planning of the pier. Tércio explained that this work was started in 2019 and that this action forces the operator to become more efficient and reach his targets allowing for improved occupation rates at berths. “The mantra is to optimize use of the channel by improving the individual performance of every berth”, he said.
