Owners and insurers of the Ever Given container vessel that blocked the Suez Canal in March said on Sunday (July 4) that a formal settlement had been reached in a damages dispute, and the canal official said the vessel would be allowed to navigate on July 7th.

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has kept the giant ship and her crew in a lake between two stretches of the waterway since it was freed on March 29 amid a dispute over a claim for damages by SCA.

The Japanese-owned Ever Given was caught in high winds and remained along the canal for six days, disrupting global trade.

“Preparations for the vessel’s release will be made, and an event marking the deal will be held at the Authority’s headquarters in Ismailia in due course,” said Faz Peermohamed of Stann Marine, representing owner Shoei Kisen, and his insurers, in a statement.

SCA said the contract would be signed on Wednesday at a ceremony and that attendees will be able to watch the ship depart.
