The ship Captain John P, which was prevented from docking at the Port of Santos due to three crew members suspected of having monkeypox, was cleared to operate on Wednesday, August 10. The vessel had undergone inspection on Monday (8).
According to the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), the vessel presented an operational plan after the suspected monkeypox cases were identified. The ship came from San Lorenzo, Argentina, with 22 crew members.
According to Anvisa, the inspection carried out on Monday (8) was responsible for assessing the health situation of the crew who were still on board, as well as the condition of the vessel, which was in an anchorage area far from the Port of Santos.
“The existing procedure does not provide for the quarantine of vessels with cases of Monkeypox, a disease with a dynamic of transmission through symptomatic patients, through close contact,” Anvisa writes in a note.
The agency emphasizes that the dissemination of laboratory results of suspected cases, as well as the health status of the crew, is the responsibility of the local Epidemiological Surveillance Team.
