The Port Authority of Itajaí received an official authorization from the Brazilian Navy to begin special maneuvers in the Port of Itajaí new turning basin, where vessels with 306 length overall (LOA) and 48.5 meters beam (width) will be able to operate.
According to the authorization granted by the Port Authority of Itajaí, operations will have to take place during daylight hours, with vessels of 306×48.5 meters, and will allow ships to either enter or leave the river channel in reverse, and then turn in the turning basin.
The first such maneuver is scheduled to take place at the end of next week, probably on the 17th January, provided that climactic conditions (wind, current, waves) are favorable for the maneuver to take place under optimal and safe conditions.
According to the agency, initially the smaller ships that have already been calling at Itajai will use the new turning basin and enter / leave in reverse. Eventually these will be replaced by larger ships.
