The Port of Ilhéus is experiencing a strategic moment with simultaneous operations reaching full berth occupancy, enabling the handling of two vessels with distinct cargo profiles. This scenario underscores the port’s versatility and its significance to both the regional and national economies.

Recently, the port welcomed the vessel Rubina, carrying approximately 17,000 tonnes of imported cocoa beans to supply the local chocolate and confectionery industry. This operation reinforces the entire supply chain, ensuring a steady flow of raw materials for production while boosting the local and regional economies.

Simultaneously, an export operation was carried out with the vessel Federal Dart, loaded with over 11,000 tonnes of nickel—an in-demand mineral in the global market. The shipment is bound for the Port of Trois-Rivières, Canada, further establishing Ilhéus as a strategic hub in the global metals trade.

The simultaneous handling of such distinct cargoes—agricultural and mineral—demonstrates the Port of Ilhéus’ logistical capability, positioning it as a key link in the supply chain. While cocoa sustains the local industry by generating jobs and income, nickel exports drive trade balance gains and attract international investment.

As the only port in southern Bahia, Ilhéus plays a crucial role in regional development. High-volume operations like these enhance the region’s competitiveness, attract new business ventures, and solidify the municipality’s standing in Brazil’s logistics network.

“The impact of these operations extends far beyond the port itself. They generate direct and indirect jobs, stimulate new business opportunities, and drive economic growth. The success of these shipments reflects the efficiency of port management and reinforces the Port of Ilhéus as a strategic asset for Brazil,” said Gilberto Rodrigues, Port of Ilhéus manager.
