Sines Port takes first steps to create Brazilian fruit logistics hub
Feb, 08, 2023 Posted by Lillian SmoakWeek 202307
The Port of Sines signed a memorandum of understanding with the Brazilian Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruit and Derivatives, whose members represent around 80% of the total volume of fresh fruit exported by Brazil.
The protocol aims to develop an exchange of knowledge and professional experiences that frame the beginning of Sines as a logistical hub for the entry of Brazilian fruits into the Iberian and European markets.
According to the APS — Administration of the Ports of Sines and the Algarve, “the Port of Sines has geographical and operational conditions that position it as a place of excellence for the import of Brazilian fruits”.
Currently, the European continent is the main destination for Brazilian fruit exports, which mostly enter the community market through the ports of northern Europe.
This memorandum of intent intends to “take the first step towards changing this logistical flow, starting to use the Port of Sines mainly as a gateway to the Iberian market”, adds APS.
