More than 45 kilograms of cocaine were found this Wednesday (20) in a container at the Port of Santos. The Federal Revenue discovered the drugs whilst inspecting three containers destined for Australia in Oceania, with one of them containing the illicit substance.
According to the Federal Revenue, a shipment of 264 drums of concentrated orange juice was selected for inspection, a regular risk assessment procedure that involves scanning the cargo. However, it was only during the physical inspection that sniffer dogs signaled the presence of drugs.
However, the cocaine wasn’t concealed within the cargo; it was found in the container’s structure, within the area reserved for refrigeration engines. This shipment was bound for the Port of Sydney, Australia, where the Federal Revenue reported that the value of a kilo of the drug is up to five times higher than in Europe.
After confirming the drug’s presence in the container, the Federal Police was called to initiate investigations for the police inquiry. The seizure is the result of the actions by the Division of Surveillance and Repression of Smuggling and Tax Evasion (Direp) of the Santos Customs.
