Soluble coffee exports earn 41% more in January despite price and logistical challenges

Soluble coffee exports are overcoming the constraints.

Surfing on the wave of the appreciated conilon coffee driven by the shortage of Arabica beans plus logistical problems in international freight, soluble coffee industries achieved a 4.5% increase in exports in January – 318,000 bags (60 kg).

The increase was much more significant in terms of revenue: 40.8% compared to January 2021.

Brazil imported US$ 52.5 million, as highlighted by the Brazilian Association of the Soluble Coffee Industry (Abics). It’s worth noting that this price factored in the global rise in coffee prices, given the severe supply imbalance of coffee beans, which led to more purchases of conilon to compensate for the lack of Arabica, as well as the weaker dollar in the second half of the year.

“The national soluble coffee industries’ production capacity stands out, allowing Brazil to maintain its market share despite significantly higher raw material prices and the persistence of logistical bottlenecks,” says Aguinaldo Lima, director of Institutional Relations at Abics.

Besides the United States and Russia, which purchased 65,600 and 33,400 bags, respectively, Brazilian instant coffee reached 81 destinations.
