Port of Itaqui’s renewed efforts into aluminum exports continue to yield positive results. On Tuesday (January 16), representatives from the international mining and metals company South32 visited the port following the success of the first aluminum ingot export operation in ten years that occurred last December. This historic moment solidifies the port’s position as a key national logistics hub.
Dennis de Seepibus, CEO of South32 and general manager of bauxite and aluminum for the company in Singapore, visited the port to familiarize himself with export procedures and celebrate the success of the aluminum operation via Itaqui. The inaugural export of around 15,000 tons was destined for the port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, representing the success of the general cargo berths.
Ricardo Miranda, Director of Engineering at Emap, emphasized the importance of maintaining a close relationship with companies operating at the port. “South32 once again demonstrated its trust in our administration, our care for organization and production. The success of the first operation will undoubtedly lead to many more,” concluded Ricardo. The Port of Itaqui and South32 have already scheduled the second aluminum ingot export operation through Itaqui for January 29, 2024.
