Soy and soy processing advance in Paraguay
Sep, 16, 2021 Posted by Neeharika KhaitanWeek 202136
Paraguay is expanding its capacity to plant soy by opening new production areas and by using technologies that enhance production. Apart from a favorable tax structure on imports and labor, the country also offers a good alternative for processing, allowing for value-added exports, as Argentina does. It also helps offset the appreciation of land value that has occurred in recent years.
The potential, foreseen by analyst Vlamir Brandalizze, is for production of between 11-12 million tons for the current harvest cycle compared to 8 million tons in the previous one.
Much of all this has the participation of the “brasiguaios”, the Brazilians and their descendants who migrated to Paraguay looking for cheap land, with an estimated population of more than 400 ,000 people.
