Soy: Port of Santos secures leadership in Brazil in May 2023

The Port of Santos, located in São Paulo, claimed the top position as Brazil’s leading exporter of soybeans in May 2023. The port facilitated the shipment of 5.475 million tons of soybeans during the month, surpassing the previous year’s May figure of 4.310 million tons.
Following closely is São Luis, situated in Maranhão, which exported 2.135 million tonnes of soybeans in May. The Port of Belém/Bacarena (PA) secured the third spot with 1.914 million tonnes, while Paranaguá (PR) handled 1.891 million tonnes.
Overall, Brazil exported 15.585 million tonnes of soybeans in May, with the total cumulative volume for 2023 reaching 49.026 million tonnes. This represents a 14% increase compared to the previous year.

Soymeal
Regarding soybean meal, the Port of Santos (SP) dominated soybean exports and emerged as the primary hub for shipping soybean meal in May 2023, handling 1 million tonnes of this by-product. Paranaguá (PR) secured the second position with 933.5 thousand tonnes, followed by Rio Grande (RS) with 398.4 thousand tonnes.
In total, Brazil exported 2.709 million tonnes of soybean meal in May 2023, marking a substantial increase of 38.4% compared to the same period in 2022, when the exports stood at 1.957 million tonnes.
