The Adolfo Lutz Institute of the São Paulo State Department of Health has identified the Delta variant of the Coronavirus in two crew members of the international ship MTM Southport, flying Singapore’s flag, which docked in Santos. The vessel made a stop at the port of Aratu, in Bahia, and arrived in Santos at the end of July. The ship was kept in quarantine after confirmation of 15 cases of covid-19.
Genetic sequencing was performed using RT-PCR test samples from two patients who were hospitalized at Santa Casa de Santos after authorization from the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).
The Adolfo Lutz Institute will also carry out sequencing of samples from symptomatic crew members of the ship CS Crystal, which is berthed in the port of Santos and originated in Dakar. The State Epidemiological Surveillance Center (CVE), the Santos Baixa surveillance group, the municipality of Santos, and ANVISA are monitoring the cases.
