The State Government of São Paulo has launched the licitation process for 1,200 km of highways linking the municipalities of Campinas and Panorama (on the border of Mato Grosso do Sul). It is the first instance of concession under the Doria government and begins today with a 30-day public consultation process, conducted by São Paulo State Transport Agency (Artesp).
The tenure of the project is 30 years, with an expected investment of R$9bn for expansion and modernization work. Currently a 218 km strip of highway is operated by concessionaire Centrovias, whose contract is scheduled to expire this year. Another 983 km stretch is operated by DER-SP, that includes SP-304, SP-308, SP- SP-197, SP-310, SP-225, SP-261, SP-293, SP-331, SP-294, SP-284 and SP-425.
The concession’s tariff model foresees a reduction in tolls by 20% and a 5% reduction to commuters who pay electronically as well as loyalty benefits for frequent travelers.
