A virtual platform combines information collected through the whole chain at the port’s sphere of influence, from truck traffic to sea conditions, to make decision-making faster and more effective. The public company Portos do Paraná is now using this technology. According to the CEO, Luiz Fernando Garcia da Silva, this is another endeavor to modernize the port.
The Port Collaborative Decision-Making (PortCDM) system is being developed in cooperation with Fundación Valenciaport, from Spain, in an unprecedented way in Brazil, using the experience of the Port of Valencia adapted to the local reality. The final investment value has not yet been determined because the project is still being developed, and recommendations from operators and other port partners are being solicited.
According to Garcia da Silva, there are cases today of systems overlapping or information being stored in multiple locations that must be combined to better grasp events. As a result, the Spanish model is seen as a safe bet for optimizing port operations. In addition to the PortCDM, Paranagua will also employ the first Port Community System-PCS in Brazil.
Port Collaborative Decision Making (PortCDM) is in the test phase. It secures the management of maritime operations in real-time, optimizing the flow of operations and the exchange of information between the players in port logistics (pilots, tugboats, moorings, Anvisa, Federal Revenue).
PortCDM is a navigation tool that allows the interchange of data between multiple participants, improving knowledge of the actual state of operations as each agent is aware of information pertinent to its task. In addition, information transmission improves planning by providing instruments for making accurate forecasts of future events and resource requirements in advance.
The Port Community System (PCS) is an electronic platform for exchanging data between the port community. The system seeks to connect multiple systems used by different organizations involved in the activity, integrating information from the entire logistics chain and promoting efficiency by reducing time and costs.
