The State Environmental Control Commission (CECA in Portuguese), a collegiate body associated with the State Secretariat for the Environment, issued the environmental license required for the construction of the Ponta Negra Terminal (TPN) project at Praia de Jaconé, in Maricá. The release was approved by the State Environmental Institute (Inea) and published in the State Official Gazette.
By contract, the license is valid for a period of seven years. The company DTA Engenharia, responsible for the project, has been authorized to start the maritime and land infrastructure works to build the port terminals for liquid bulk and general cargo. The anticipated interventions include the construction of an access channel, a maneuvering basin, a breakwater, a hydraulic landfill, as well as security structures, an administrative center, a logistics yard, and the construction site, the first step to erecting the land and sea structures for the port.
According to Inea, the project complies with current environmental regulations as it foresees the construction of structures that are adapted to the sedimentary rocks located on the sand strip and respects the areas where the fauna and flora threatened with extinction are located.
The plan is to build four large structures: a terminal for liquid bulk; another for natural gas; a third for containers; and a shipyard for repairs. The operational area has approximately 3.5 million m². The total investment in the complex should reach close to R$ 13 billion. The Rota 3 gas pipeline, which connects the pre-salt pole of the Santos Basin to Gaslub, will pass through the area of the future TPN.
