STI LOBELIA spearheads multi-operation endeavor at Itaqui Port

The Itaqui Port has once again shown its versatility by overseeing a complex operation. The flagship of this operation, the STI LOBELIA, laden with Diesel S-10, has been docked at Berth 106, conducting six distinct operations over six days since March 17th.
These operations comprised two ship-to-ship transfers, where the S-10 diesel fuel cargo was directly transferred between vessels, side by side, at the same berth; two conventional transfers, involving cargo exchange between two vessels at different berths; and two unloads, slated for four different terminals. The STI LOBELIA – flying the Marshall Islands flag – served as the hub for all these operations.
Ship-to-ship transfers will occur with the Tweed and Nave Atria vessels, while conventional transfers will be carried out with the Eden and Sergio Buarque ships. The two onshore unloads will target terminals operated by Transpetro, Ultracargo, Granel, and Santos Brasil. The estimated total cargo handled in this operation exceeds 100,000 tons, underscoring the magnitude and complexity of this logistical endeavor.
The distribution of this volume follows specific procedures: unloading 14,133 tons to onshore terminals; a ship-to-ship transfer to the TWEED vessel, totaling 27,775 tons; another ship-to-ship transfer to the NAVE ATRIA vessel, with 25,560 tons; a transfer of 25,560 tons to the EDEN vessel; and a further transfer of 13,973 tons to another berth, destined for the Sergio Buarque de Holanda vessel. This entire operation is only possible due to meticulously planned logistics, offering, above all, time and fuel savings.
For instance, the Ship-to-Ship operation ensures flexibility in cargo distribution, reducing costs and maximizing operational efficiency, thereby decreasing vessel waiting time and avoiding port fees and other associated charges.
To Gilberto Lins, President of the Itaqui Port, this operation marks another milestone for the port’s logistical development. “Itaqui strengthens its position as a crucial hub for maritime and logistical operations, ready to tackle challenges and innovate in cargo handling activities,” emphasized Lins.
