Suape Breakwater Revitalization Project to Safeguard Port Operations

The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, and Governor Raquel Lyra signed a Commitment Agreement this Friday (11) to begin the 4th phase of restoration of the Suape breakwater—a crucial project for bolstering the port.

This initiative, which has a total investment of R$123 million, is key to improving the port’s infrastructure and ensuring safer and more efficient operations. Funding comes from multiple sources, including R$50 million from the Novo PAC and R$73 million from the state government of Pernambuco.

The project focuses on restoring the breakwater extension, which has significantly damaged the hydraulic berm over the years. The work will ensure the area’s structural integrity, providing safe conditions for ship maneuvering and docking while reducing the impact of waves and ocean currents. Construction is set to begin in October, with completion expected by May 2028.

Over 83 companies operate in this complex, generating more than 20,000 jobs. It’s great to bring investments and help Suape regain its leadership in the Northeast. This project will be critical in ensuring the safety of the port’s infrastructure,” emphasized Silvio Costa Filho.

Additional investments are in progress, such as the dredging and groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for November, with APM Terminals investing R$ 1.7 billion.

Besides the minister and the governor, the event was attended by Senator Humberto Costa, Federal Deputy Ossesio Silva, National Secretaries for Ports and Airports Alex Ávila and Tomé Franca, Pernambuco’s Secretary of Economic Development Guilherme Cavalcanti, Suape President Márcio Guiot, among other officials.

Between January and July of this year, the Suape port complex moved an impressive BRL 14.5 billion worth of goods in outbound and inbound operations, marking a 2.76% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth is driven by the activities of 83 companies across 12 industrial hubs, generating approximately 20,000 jobs and supporting countless families in the region.

With this new phase of construction, the Port of Suape is poised to further enhance its economic significance and operational security.
